Amidst a decline in the number of active working royals, King Charles is reportedly contemplating a proposal to invite Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to serve as 'part-time' members of the royal family.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from their senior royal duties in 2020, are said to express a desire to return to the UK, particularly as their popularity wanes in the US.
In discussions with The Mirror, royal expert Tom Quinn suggested that Harry and Meghan have long hoped for a more flexible approach to royal duties under King Charles's reign.
According to reports, the couple, now residing in California, envisions spending half of the year in the UK, recognizing the value of their royal connections amidst their transition away from full-time royal roles.
Tom Quinn elaborated, stating, "Six months of active royal duties in the UK, followed by six months in the States, could enhance the Sussex brand, which has diminished in appeal without their direct involvement in royal affairs."
Furthermore, he noted the preference of the American public for Harry's continued involvement as a full-time working royal, emphasizing its significance in sustaining public interest.
However, with Harry's reduced royal commitments, concerns arise about Meghan's potential to maintain her relevance without the accompanying royal stature.
Tom shared, "Now that Harry has relinquished his full-time royal role, there's a risk of diminishing interest in him among the American audience - something Meghan strongly dislikes."
As discussions unfold, King Charles may explore innovative arrangements to accommodate Harry and Meghan's desire for a partial return to royal duties while addressing the shifting dynamics within the royal family.
