Billie Eilish Reveals Identity Crisis Following Blonde Transformation

During her 'Happier Than Ever' era, Billie Eilish embraced a departure from her trademark grungy style, opting for a softer, more feminine aesthetic.

In a bold move in 2021, Eilish famously dyed her hair blonde, a significant shift from her vibrant hair colors of the past.

However, the 22-year-old musician confessed that behind the transformation lay a period of identity crisis.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, published on Wednesday, April 24, Eilish reflected on her hair transformation, which caused a stir on the internet following its debut on Instagram.

Recalling the moment, she admitted, “And then I dyed my hair blond and I immediately was like, ‘Oh, I have no idea who I am.’”

Beyond altering her appearance, Eilish also reimagined her style, trading her grunge for a softer, more feminine look. This evolution culminated in a stunning appearance at the Met Gala, where she donned icy blonde locks and a peach tulle Oscar de la Renta gown.

On the red carpet, Eilish shared with Keke Palmer, “It was time for this, and I feel like I’ve grown so much in the last few years.”

She added, “I’ve always wanted to do this. I was just scared and didn’t feel comfortable in my skin and I feel like I finally did.”

Despite the new aesthetic's alignment with her sophomore album's vibe, 'Happier Than Ever', Eilish couldn't shake the feeling that it strayed too far from her true self.

Reflecting on the record, Eilish’s brother, Finneas O’Connell, likened it to seeking solace in a storm, a coping mechanism within the confines of music.
