Once hailed as a beloved royal couple following their 2018 nuptials, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have seemingly undermined their own standing by distancing themselves from the supportive royal framework they once belonged to, an expert suggests.
After stepping back from their roles as senior working royals in 2020 and relocating to the US, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex appear to have inadvertently tarnished their own image while attempting to challenge their royal connections through public critiques.
Harry and Meghan initially garnered significant public favor until a pivotal decision dramatically shifted public opinion against them.
Nana Akua, speaking on GB News, opined: "Meghan Markle was initially embraced as a promising addition to the royal family, with the potential to become one of its most cherished members."
However, sentiments changed as the couple directed their efforts towards criticizing the royal family rather than supporting it.
The commentator further elaborated on Meghan's declining popularity, noting: "She underestimated the influence and significance of the monarchy."
Akua continued, "Once you delve beneath the superficial allure of Hollywood's glitz and glamour, what appears shiny and attractive often reveals itself to be superficial and lacking substance."
She also criticized Meghan's choice to discuss private matters on Oprah, suggesting it was detrimental to the royal family's image.
"The Sussexes' ventures, like their podcast on Spotify and a Netflix reality show where they criticized their own family, haven't been overwhelmingly successful," Akua added.
She highlighted Meghan's recent launch of her personal website, drawing parallels to her earlier lifestyle blog, The Tig.
"Initially, Meghan had immense potential and public support," the expert concluded, "However, her ambitions to shine in Hollywood seemed to overshadow the value of being connected to a globally recognized Royal Family. In the end, simplicity prevails: a King trumps Hollywood stars."
