Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn were a couple for six years before their breakup in early 2023.
In a recently resurfaced clip, Swift opened up about a significant aspect that may have contributed to her eventual split from Alwyn.
During a 2012 interview on The Chatty Man, Swift admitted her discomfort with "hiding" her relationships from the public, as reported by Us Weekly.
“To me, it all depends on who you’re with. If they have a serious issue with it then you, I guess, hide or whatever but I don’t really like that,” Swift expressed.
She likened the experience to feeling like a fugitive, stating, "Because it makes me feel like I’m running from the law or something. I don’t want to feel like I’m a fugitive, like, ‘Oh my God, we’re having a relationship! Better put on a mask and stuff!’”
Swift and Alwyn kept their relationship very private, rarely being seen together in public.
In the video, Swift emphasized her preference for simply living her life without worrying about public perception. “I feel like if you can be in a relationship and have it seem normal, that would be good,” she remarked.
This interview occurred four years before Swift began dating Alwyn in 2016. The couple eventually parted ways in early 2023.
