Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appear committed to their contentious strategy, which some believe is aimed at undermining their royal relatives. The couple is reportedly positioning themselves as rivals to the royal family in an effort to salvage their public image.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have faced accusations of boosting their own profile by opposing the royal family.
Analyzing Meghan and Harry's recent Nigeria trip, styled with royal undertones, an expert suggested that "an alternative royal family is emerging."
"The issue for the Sussexes is that as soon as they engage in such activities, their other ventures, like commercial projects or quasi-royal tours, come under intense scrutiny," Gareth Russell explained to The Sun.
"By branding it 'The Office of Harry and Meghan,' they invite closer examination," he added. "It’s curious. Could this be a strategic shift to counteract some negative press they've faced recently?"
With Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in tow, Harry and Meghan have hinted at more international tours. Harry's recent comments suggest that King Charles' reluctance to meet him has rekindled tensions between the two factions.
Russell cautioned the royal family about the Sussexes' plans, noting, "They are organizing more faux-royal tours, including across the US."
"Their current popularity in America is low, but that could change. Public opinion fluctuates. They could easily embark on a US tour, and signs point to that happening," Russell continued.
In an interview with People, Prince Harry seemed to issue a veiled warning to his own family: "There’s only so much one can do from home and over Zoom, so we look forward to traveling more because the work matters."
In response, King Charles and Prince William are reportedly consulting with senior royals and aides to prevent Meghan and Harry from becoming a significant threat to the monarchy.
