Queen Camilla Marks Milestone with Commonwealth Essay Competition After Battling Illness
Queen Camilla has celebrated a heartwarming milestone as she resumed her royal duties following a chest infection.
On November 21, Buckingham Palace revealed that the Queen Consort met with participants of The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2024, the world’s oldest school writing competition, which she has supported for over a decade.
A delightful video from the engagement was shared on social media, accompanied by the caption:
“Celebrating the utterly ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ winners of The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2024! Supported by Her Majesty for over a decade, the world’s oldest writing competition for schools has been delivered by the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) since 1883.”
This year’s competition, themed ‘Our Common Wealth’, received a record-breaking 34,939 entries from students across the Commonwealth. The winners and runners-up hailed from Malaysia, Singapore, and Uganda.
During the event at Buckingham Palace, excerpts from the winning essays were brought to life by notable personalities, including Clive Myrie, Tanya Reynolds, Toby Stephens, and Richard Ayoade.
This celebratory occasion followed a period of heartbreak for the Queen, who recently mourned the loss of her beloved rescued dog, Beth. Despite her grief and recovery from illness, Queen Camilla demonstrated her unwavering dedication to her royal responsibilities.
