Princess of Wales Shares Chemotherapy Update in Unprecedented Video Message
Kate Middleton has taken a bold step, defying royal protocol to share significant personal news in a heartfelt video message released in September.
The Princess of Wales surprised many by announcing on her and Prince William’s official social media accounts that she had completed chemotherapy treatment. The emotional message marked the first update on her health since her cancer diagnosis was revealed in March.
Royal biographer Robert Hardman, in his book King Charles: New King, New Court, noted that Kate’s move was unconventional. “The video was attributed not to 'HRH The Princess of Wales,' but simply to 'Catherine, The Princess of Wales,' a subtle yet significant departure from royal norms,” Hardman explained.
The message, filmed by a professional cameraman from BBC Studios Events Productions rather than a family member, featured Kate’s own words, breaking from the usual scripted format issued by the Palace.
“Even the formal transcript released by Buckingham Palace deviated from standard protocol,” Hardman added, highlighting the personal touch Kate brought to the announcement.
Now gradually resuming her public duties, Kate is set to attend two Remembrance events this weekend. Buckingham Palace confirmed that she will join the royal family in London for the commemorations, alongside King Charles, Prince William, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal, and other senior royals.
