Duchess Sophie took on a significant royal duty, stepping into the spotlight following a recent head injury, as Queen Camilla remains sidelined due to illness.
On November 11, King Charles entrusted the Duchess of Edinburgh with a major responsibility, sending her to represent the royal family at the Armistice Day service. Buckingham Palace shared poignant photos of Sophie at the Armed Forces Memorial, marking her return to public engagements.
The Palace’s statement read, “This morning, The Duchess of Edinburgh attended the National Memorial Arboretum’s annual #ArmisticeDay service at the Armed Forces Memorial.” The memorial, unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II in 2007, features a design where a shaft of light falls on the central wreath at precisely 11:00 on November 11.
Sophie’s role in the ceremony comes as Queen Camilla continues to recover from a chest infection. The Palace previously announced, “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection and has been advised by her doctors to rest.”
Due to her illness, Queen Camilla was unable to attend the Remembrance Day services, as a precautionary measure to prevent the risk of spreading the infection among family members. Duchess Sophie’s presence at the event highlights her growing responsibilities within the royal family during this period of transition.
