Kensington Palace shares highlights as the Prince wraps up his visit and prepares to return to the UK.
Prince William concluded the fourth Earthshot Prize Award ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa, on Wednesday, marking the end of his impactful four-day visit. The Prince of Wales, who completed around 11 engagements during Earthshot Week, is set to depart for the UK on Thursday, November 7th.
As William prepares to reunite with Kate Middleton and their three children — Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 — Kensington Palace released a series of highlights from the eventful evening. “So great to see so many brilliant people coming together tonight from across the continent of Africa and around the world to celebrate with us here in Cape Town,” read the Palace’s message, shared alongside a collection of photos.
The Palace also released a video clip showing participants and guests arriving on the green carpet, followed by emotional scenes as the Earthshot Prize winners were announced. The video celebrated the vibrant African culture and the diverse talents contributing to environmental innovation.
“What a night! Thank you to everyone who made The @earthshotprize 2024 so special,” the Palace captioned the video.
Speaking from the green carpet, William reflected on the event’s success: “I can’t quite believe we’re here, but I’m thrilled. I’ve been looking forward to an African Earthshot for a long time. I love the continent and am so glad we brought it here to South Africa.”
With the ceremony now complete, the Prince is heading home, leaving behind a memorable legacy of collaboration and innovation in Cape Town.
