Prince William offered heartfelt words of admiration during a visit to Newport, Wales, on Wednesday, as he focused on tackling homelessness amid a difficult year for the royal family.
The Prince of Wales visited the Nelson Trust, an organisation dedicated to helping individuals facing homelessness, trauma, and domestic abuse, as part of his Homewards initiative. This ambitious project, launched earlier this year, aims to eliminate homelessness in the UK by 2028, with Newport among six pilot locations.
During his visit, William privately met with survivors of domestic abuse and sexual exploitation, listening to their powerful stories of resilience.
One such encounter was with Rebecca, a 32-year-old care assistant who shared her journey of overcoming significant personal tragedies. Homeless from the age of 16, Rebecca spoke about losing her partner and father, enduring a suicide attempt, and ultimately finding strength to rebuild her life.
Moved by her determination, William told her, “You seem like a force of nature, Rebecca. We need more Rebeccas in the world. You’ve been through more than most people experience in a lifetime.”
Reflecting on her resilience, he admitted, “I’m not sure I would have come out the other side like you.”
This poignant visit comes as the royal family faces its own challenges. Princess Kate recently completed preventative chemotherapy, and King Charles continues treatment for an undisclosed cancer diagnosis.
Despite these personal struggles, the royal family remains committed to their duties. William’s engagement in Newport underscores his dedication to social causes, even amid these trying times, showcasing the royals’ enduring resolve to make a difference.
