Royal Couple’s Absence Sparks Speculation Amid Family Festivities
Prince William and Princess Kate have chosen to skip King Charles III’s traditional pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace, raising eyebrows with their unexpected move.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were notably absent from Thursday’s gathering, a decision that comes alongside Prince Andrew’s withdrawal amid his ongoing alleged “spy” scandal. While their absence has sparked speculation about possible family tensions, insiders suggest the couple’s decision was unrelated to Andrew’s controversy.
The royal couple, already in Norfolk with their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—are reportedly prioritising time at Sandringham, where they will join the family’s usual Christmas celebrations.
“William and Kate are looking forward to spending time with members of the Firm as usual at the Sandringham estate over Christmas,” an insider shared, adding that their absence from the Buckingham Palace event was a logistical choice.
Despite their absence, the gathering was attended by other senior royals, including Queen Camilla, Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie also attended, accompanied by their husbands Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank.
While William and Kate’s decision to miss the event has stirred speculation, their focus remains on family time during the festive season, highlighting their commitment to holiday traditions at Sandringham.
