Meghan Markle Reveals Dating App Inspired Her Brand’s Rebrand

Duchess opens up about name change and entrepreneurial journey amid As Ever launch

Meghan Markle has made a surprising revelation about the inspiration behind her lifestyle brand’s recent rebranding, drawing an unexpected comparison to the popular dating app Bumble.

In a new interview with Inc., the Duchess of Sussex shared that she only recently learned her close friend Whitney Wolfe Herd originally named Bumble “Merci” before rebranding it. Meghan admitted, “Even though we’re close friends, I had no idea that Bumble was originally called Merci.”

The former Suits actress drew parallels between her own experience and Wolfe Herd’s, reflecting on her decision to rename her brand from American Riviera Orchard to As Ever.

“These things that can feel very big as an entrepreneur when you're building your own thing are completely normal,” she explained, crediting Wolfe Herd for helping her embrace the shift.

Meghan launched her lifestyle brand’s first collection—featuring fruit spreads, honey, flower sprinkles, teas, and other artisanal items—on April 2. The products reportedly sold out within an hour of release.

“I hope that people see that reflected in whatever it is that I’m creating and putting out there,” she said. “It’s just an extension of me.”
