Duchess sparks fresh royal tension with candid remarks about early royal struggles
Meghan Markle has reignited royal tensions with a revealing new interview, in which she expressed a heartfelt wish to have met Princess Diana and reflected on her early days with Prince Harry.
Speaking on the Jamie Kern Lima Show, the Duchess of Sussex opened up about the emotional challenges she faced after her relationship with Harry became public, life with their children Archie and Lilibet, and ongoing speculation about a potential memoir.
Amidst the deeply personal conversation, Meghan reacted to Harry’s past remarks comparing her to his late mother. The host recalled: “Harry said publicly, ‘So much of what Meghan is and how she is is so similar to my mum… compassion, empathy, confidence, warmth.’”
Meghan replied simply: “It’s beautiful. I wish I could have met her.”
While her comments were touching, the Duchess also appeared to take a subtle swipe at royal life, describing the start of her royal journey as a rapid descent into difficulty. “At the beginning it's all butterflies,” she recalled. “But then we immediately went into the trenches together… six months into dating.”
She continued: “So now, seven years later, when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way.”
The interview has sparked renewed criticism from royal watchers, with some interpreting Meghan’s reflections as a fresh jab at the monarchy, reigniting the long-running family rift.
