Royal couple kick off Isle of Mull visit with support for local communities and mark 14th anniversary
Prince William and Catherine have officially begun their royal tour of the Scottish Isles with a heartfelt gesture, announcing new grants aimed at boosting community wellbeing on the Isle of Mull.
In a statement from their Royal Foundation, the Prince and Princess of Wales revealed that two key community spaces will receive funding through their Community Impact Programme. The announcement comes as the couple celebrates their 14th wedding anniversary.
Aros Hall in Tobermory will see its 'Rainydays' play area transformed into a soft play space, designed to promote parent-child interaction and physical play. Meanwhile, Pennyghael Community Hall will use its grant to renovate indoor facilities and carry out essential roof repairs, ensuring the building remains a vital hub for local residents.
The couple, upon arriving in Tobermory, are also meeting with members of the charity Home-Start Lorn to discuss how it is applying Catherine’s Shaping Us initiative, which focuses on childhood development and family support.
Interior designer Banjo Beale, a Mull resident, has volunteered his expertise to help redesign and enhance both community spaces.
The visit marks Catherine’s first royal tour since recovering from cancer and holds special significance for the couple, who are expected to enjoy some private time during the two-day trip in celebration of their anniversary.
