Cate Blanchett praises royal’s climate initiative as a powerful force for global change
Prince William’s Earthshot Prize has earned high praise from a major Hollywood figure, with actress Cate Blanchett endorsing the initiative for its bold environmental vision and growing global influence.
Launched in 2020 by the Prince of Wales, the Earthshot Prize seeks practical, scalable solutions to some of the planet’s most pressing environmental challenges. Now in its fifth year, the award grants £1 million each to five innovators working to safeguard the Earth’s future.
Blanchett, an Oscar-winning actress and prominent environmental advocate, attended the 2023 Earthshot Prize ceremony in Singapore and hailed the project for recognising “innovations that are not only game changing but rapidly scalable.”
She emphasised the need to shift climate responsibility away from individuals and onto those in power. “It’s really important to recognise that many people are struggling,” she told The Telegraph. “Climate can feel like yet another burden to take on – that no one individual can make the changes needed to turn things around.”
Despite the overwhelming nature of the climate crisis, Blanchett called for collective action, insisting that apathy is not an option. “The way we consume does add up,” she said. “The Prize, I feel, is a real injection of energised hope.”
