Monarch expected to attend 2026 Commonwealth summit as part of renewed global engagement
Buckingham Palace is reportedly preparing to unveil an exciting update about King Charles’ next overseas engagement, with fresh details emerging about the monarch’s potential trip to the Caribbean in early 2026.
According to Express, King Charles and Queen Camilla are planning a visit to Antigua and Barbuda — the host nation for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). While the exact dates of the summit have not yet been confirmed, officials are eager to welcome leaders from across the Commonwealth early next year.
As Head of the Commonwealth, King Charles is said to be keen on attending the biennial event, reinforcing his commitment to the global organisation and following the example set by his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
A royal insider shared, “His Majesty wants to continue his mother’s legacy and show his commitment to the Commonwealth,” adding weight to speculation that the monarch will appear at the 28th summit.
Royal editor Emily Ferguson reported that palace courtiers have already visited the Caribbean nation to conduct an early assessment and begin preparing the itinerary — a strong indication that plans are progressing behind the scenes.
King Charles previously attended last year’s CHOGM in Samoa and is expected to remain actively engaged in Commonwealth affairs despite recent health concerns. With anticipation building, royal watchers are now awaiting an official announcement from Buckingham Palace in the coming weeks confirming the King’s travel plans.
