King Charles and Queen Camilla Announce Canada Visit Following Prince Harry’s Court Defeat

Buckingham Palace focuses on diplomacy as Duke of Sussex faces legal setback in UK security case

Just hours after Prince Harry's appeal for state-funded UK security was rejected, Buckingham Palace shifted focus to official royal duties, announcing a royal visit to Canada later this month.

In a statement shared to the royal family's official Instagram account, it was confirmed that King Charles III and Queen Camilla will travel to Ottawa from May 26–27 to attend the State Opening of Canada’s Parliament, following Mark Carney’s recent election victory.

"The King and Queen will visit Canada from Monday 26th to Tuesday 27th May," the Palace noted. "Their Majesties will attend The State Opening of the Parliament of Canada in Ottawa."

This announcement comes shortly after the Court of Appeal rejected Prince Harry’s legal challenge to restore his police protection in the UK, which he claimed was necessary for the safe return of his family—Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet.

Although not directly referencing Harry’s defeat, the timing of the Palace’s statement highlights the monarchy’s continued public agenda despite ongoing internal tensions. Harry is said to be “hugely disappointed” by the ruling and could now face £1.5 million in legal costs, though he still has the option to appeal to the Supreme Court.

The King and Harry reportedly disagree on the legal battle, further straining an already fragile relationship. With Charles continuing royal engagements abroad and Harry weighing his next legal move, the gap between the Duke and the royal household appears wider than ever.
