Palace highlights Duke of Edinburgh's Vatican visit while Sussexes mark milestone amid family rift
On May 19, as Harry and Meghan celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary, Buckingham Palace released a statement recognising Prince Edward’s recent diplomatic duty.
A photo shared on the royal family's official Instagram page showed the Duke of Edinburgh meeting Pope Leo XIV following his Inaugural Mass at the Vatican. The caption noted that Edward was representing King Charles during the ceremony, which marked the beginning of the new Papacy.
The timing of the update did not go unnoticed, as the monarch publicly acknowledged his brother’s role while remaining silent on the Sussexes' anniversary. The couple observed the occasion amid strained relations with the royal family.
Harry has expressed a willingness to reconcile and voiced concern for his father’s health as King Charles undergoes cancer treatment. Yet, no formal anniversary message or response to his olive branch has been issued by the monarch or senior royals.
