Monarch caught on camera expressing displeasure over lack of introductions during solemn ceremony
King Charles III appeared mildly irritated during the 80th anniversary VE Day memorial service at Westminster Abbey, where he was joined by Queen Camilla, veterans, and thousands of attendees.
The 76-year-old monarch remained composed overall but briefly showed signs of displeasure during an encounter with a veteran. According to professional lip reader Jeremy Freeman, the King seemed to express frustration after an aide reportedly failed to introduce him—an important point of royal protocol.
Freeman interpreted the King quietly telling Queen Camilla, "Unbelievable, where are my introductions?" before asking, "Where, where are you?" An aide was then seen quickly stepping in as the King continued greeting veterans.
The service was attended by senior royals and dignitaries, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal and Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and the Duke of Kent.
