Duchess offers rare insight into family life and morning routines in Montecito
Meghan Markle has shared a personal glimpse into her daily life with Prince Harry and their two children, revealing that Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, currently attend different schools.
Speaking on the Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, the Duchess of Sussex explained that her mornings often begin at 6:30 a.m., especially on days when she manages school drop-offs herself. “They’re at two different schools — that’s a big circuit,” Meghan noted, adding that drop-off mornings usually keep her out until 9 a.m.
This particular morning, she shared, was different as Archie was home with a cold. Meghan described preparing breakfast, dressing the children, and packing lunch boxes — complete with handwritten notes — as part of her cherished daily routine.
The family has lived in Montecito, California, since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, where both children now attend local schools. The age gap between Archie and Lilibet may explain the separation in schools for now.
Meghan has long expressed her appreciation for a more private family life. In a 2022 interview with The Cut, she reflected that in the UK, school drop-offs would have been impossible without media attention: “She’d never be able to do school pickup and drop-off without it being a royal photo call with a press pen of 40 people snapping pictures.”
Despite their royal titles, the couple appears committed to offering their children a grounded and relatively normal upbringing away from the spotlight.
