Prince Harry 'Gutted' Again as King Charles Makes Final Move on Frogmore Cottage

Monarch’s latest decision shuts the door on Duke’s UK home once and for all

Prince Harry is reportedly facing fresh heartache from the United Kingdom, nearly a year after King Charles finalised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s eviction from Frogmore Cottage — a place Harry once considered his only safe haven in Britain.

According to royal insiders and property expert Robin Edwards, palace officials are now moving ahead with new long-term plans for the Windsor residence, signalling that the royal household no longer sees Harry’s return as part of its future.

Gifted to the couple by Queen Elizabeth II in 2018 following their wedding, Frogmore Cottage became a symbolic link between Harry and his royal roots. But following the couple’s 2020 royal exit and Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare, the King’s patience appeared to run out. Their formal eviction was finalised in June 2024 — a move that, according to royal author Tom Quinn, left Harry “absolutely furious and in tears.”

Now, as reported by Marie Claire, the monarchy is preparing to repurpose the home, with options including:

Leasing it to a “high-profile tenant with royal connections”

Using it as accommodation for “visiting dignitaries or guests” attending events at Windsor Castle

“The Royal Family will likely want to find a practical use for Frogmore rather than leave it vacant — that would be controversial,” Edwards explained.

While Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank once temporarily occupied the cottage, they’ve since relocated abroad. Meanwhile, as Prince Andrew resists giving up Royal Lodge, palace aides are reportedly keen to ensure no other royal residence sits idle.

The King’s renewed action follows Harry’s public frustration after losing his UK security appeal — an outburst that may have further solidified the King’s position. While Harry has expressed a desire to reconcile with his family, the decision to sever his last physical tie to royal life appears to stand firm.

For the Duke of Sussex, this move is more than logistical — it is deeply personal. With Frogmore no longer part of his future, the message from the Palace is unmistakable: Harry’s chapter in Windsor has come to an end.
