The Prince and Princess of Wales' strategy to prepare their son for leadership revealed
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s latest effort to mentor their eldest son, Prince George, has earned praise from royal commentators for its thoughtful approach.
During a tea party marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the Prince and Princess of Wales introduced their son to war veterans, providing him with the opportunity to engage with those who served during the war. In photos and videos, George can be seen interacting with the veterans and listening attentively to their stories.
Royal commentator Jennie Bond noted that William’s decision to gradually involve George in such significant public events was a “clever” way of preparing him for his future role. She explained, "I think they had prepared him to sit down with some of the veterans, and he looked genuinely interested and concerned to hear their stories of the war."
Bond also pointed out that these VE Day commemorations could be one of the few chances for George to meet those who served their country during the war. She believes the encounter will be a meaningful experience George will reflect on when he becomes Chief of the Armed Forces.
She highlighted how William’s supportive approach—allowing George to engage directly with the veterans while he remained in the background—was a subtle yet effective way to mentor his son.
