Princess Royal makes rare political appeal amid ongoing health concerns
Princess Anne has called on the UK government to take immediate action on rural housing, issuing a rare and direct political statement during a public appearance in London on Wednesday.
Speaking at the English Rural national conference, the Princess Royal—who serves as patron of the charity—urged ministers to adopt a “longer-term vision” and implement “a coherent national programme” to support those living and working in the countryside.
“There’s a whole lot of work to be done to deliver homes and jobs outside cities,” Anne said, emphasising the growing challenges facing rural communities. She also highlighted the urgent need for better transport and logistics infrastructure, stating that such improvements are essential for rural areas to thrive.
Her remarks come amid fresh concerns about her health, following reports of an injury sustained during an “incident” at her Gatcombe Park estate. Despite the setback, Princess Anne has continued with her royal duties, appearing well during recent engagements—including the Easter Service alongside senior royals.
Known as the hardest-working member of the Royal Family, Princess Anne’s public call for rural investment marked a notable moment of advocacy, reflecting her deep commitment to the countryside and those who live there.
