Duchess of York says late monarch 'speaks' to her through the dogs she inherited
Sarah Ferguson has opened up about her emotional and deeply personal connection to Queen Elizabeth II, sharing a touching story that has resonated with royal fans around the world.
Speaking at the Creative Women Platform Forum in London on May 14, the Duchess of York revealed that she feels the late monarch’s presence through her cherished corgis, Muick and Sandy—whom she and Prince Andrew adopted after the Queen’s passing in 2022.
“I have her dogs,” Fergie said during the event. “Every morning they come in and go, ‘Woof, woof,’ and all that—and I’m sure it’s her talking to me.” Her lighthearted comment, shared in a video posted to Instagram, drew laughter and warmth from the audience.
Reflecting more seriously, she added, “The real thing is that I had the greatest honour to be her daughter-in-law. You know, that's really huge.”
The 65-year-old also spoke of being moved by a passing glimpse of the Elizabeth train line on her way to the event, calling it a reminder of what “an amazing lady she was.”
Sarah was married to Prince Andrew, Queen Elizabeth’s second son, from 1986 until their divorce in 1996. Despite their split, the two remain close and continue to share their Windsor residence, Royal Lodge. Together, they co-parent their daughters—referred to by Fergie as "our beautiful girls"—and now, the Queen’s beloved dogs, who have become a living symbol of her enduring presence.
