Monarch expresses warm welcome ahead of former U.S. president’s anticipated second state visit
Buckingham Palace has officially extended an invitation to former U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife for a state visit later this year, signalling King Charles' willingness to strengthen ties and host the American leader for a rare second official visit.
According to GB News, the formal invitation—known as a Manu Regia—has been sent to the White House, marking the beginning of planning for the upcoming visit. A Palace spokesperson confirmed that "His Majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year."
The outreach was preceded by a diplomatic gesture in February 2025, when current U.S. President Keir Starmer personally delivered a letter from King Charles to Trump, inviting him to the UK on behalf of the Crown.
Trump responded positively to the monarch’s gesture, saying, “It’s a very special place, and [Starmer is] a special man. The United Kingdom is a wonderful country that I know very well—I’m there a lot.” He confirmed plans are underway, adding, “I’ll be going there, and we expect to see each other in the near future—we’ll be announcing it.”
If confirmed, this would mark an unprecedented second state visit to the UK for Trump—an honor rarely extended—and a noteworthy moment in the diplomatic relationship between the British monarchy and U.S. leadership.
