King Charles Abandons Buckingham Palace Move Amid Cancer Battle

Monarch expected to remain at Clarence House as health concerns reshape royal plans

King Charles will reportedly no longer move into Buckingham Palace during his reign, as ongoing cancer treatment prompts a significant change in the monarchy’s future arrangements.

Buckingham Palace continues to assure the public that the King, 76, is responding well to weekly cancer treatments. However, speculation surrounding his long-term health persists, as Prince William, Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie frequently step in for official duties.

The King currently resides at Clarence House, while Buckingham Palace is undergoing major renovations, scheduled for completion in late 2027. The original plan was for Charles to relocate once the work was finished. But a new report by Daily Telegraph royal editor Camilla Tominey suggests this move will not happen.

Tominey reported that Charles’s cancer, diagnosed in early 2024, is considered incurable. “The talk now is that he may die ‘with’ cancer, but not ‘of’ cancer following a rigorous treatment programme,” she wrote.

She added: “One concession to his health and advancing years... is that it appears unlikely he will ever move from Clarence House to Buckingham Palace after the restoration is completed.” The Palace will instead continue as the monarchy’s main working base for the remainder of the King’s reign.
