Their Majesties kick off Royal Ascot with regal flair, surrounded by familiar faces and tradition
King Charles and Queen Camilla received a warm welcome as they returned to Royal Ascot on Tuesday, leading the traditional carriage procession in front of a cheering crowd.
Riding in the first carriage with Prince Faisal bin Salman Al Saud and Lady Sarah Keswick, the King and Queen smiled broadly as they arrived at the esteemed racing event.
The royal presence extended beyond the leading pair, with subsequent carriages filled with family members and long-time friends. Princess Anne drew attention from well-wishers as she travelled in the second carriage alongside Annabel Elliot—Queen Camilla’s sister—and the Duke and Duchess of Wellington.
Peter Phillips, the King’s nephew, was seen in the third carriage with his partner Harriet Sperling, joined by author Anthony Horowitz and his wife, Jill.
The final carriage featured Lady Joanna Morton Jack and her husband, historian Henry Morton Jack, accompanied by Lord and Lady Vestey—adding further distinction to the lineup.
The King’s appearance follows closely behind recent ceremonial events such as Trooping the Colour and the Order of the Garter, underlining the season's theme of continuity and royal tradition.
Though Buckingham Palace has not formally confirmed the monarch’s full attendance, reports suggest King Charles intends to be present for all five days of the event, fuelled by what insiders describe as a renewed enthusiasm for the sport.
