Meghan Markle Responds to Backlash Over Viral Dance Video with Prince Harry

Duchess of Sussex defends ‘authentic’ moment as she embraces social media on her own terms

Meghan Markle has addressed criticism surrounding the now-viral "Baby Momma Dance" video featuring her and Prince Harry, affirming she has no regrets about sharing the joyful moment.

In a newly released teaser for an upcoming Aspire with Emma Grede podcast episode, obtained by People magazine, the Duchess of Sussex reflected on the June 4 Instagram post, which celebrated daughter Lilibet’s fourth birthday with a throwback video from 2021.

The clip showed a heavily pregnant Meghan dancing with Harry just hours before giving birth. Captioning the post, she recalled trying everything to induce labour after both of her children arrived a week late: “So when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work — there was only one thing left to do!”

Speaking to Grede, Meghan discussed the importance of showing her “real” self. When the host remarked, “You have to be authentic,” Meghan laughed and responded, “Did you see my 'Baby Momma' dance?!”

Grede praised the video for its honesty and joy, to which Meghan agreed, calling it a moment of “realness.” She emphasised that these glimpses—while rarely public—have always been a part of her life behind the scenes.

“That was four years ago… there’s still a whole life — a real, authentic, fun life — that’s happening behind the scenes,” she said. “I’m just grateful that now, being back on social… I have a place where I can share it on my own terms.”

Meghan officially returned to Instagram earlier this year, gradually offering more personal insights. Most recently, she posted a Father’s Day tribute to Harry, featuring previously unseen moments between him and their children, Archie and Lilibet.
