Meghan Markle sparks backlash over privacy U-turn involving children

Duke and Duchess of Sussex criticised as children feature in As Ever promotions

Harry and Meghan Markle are facing renewed criticism for apparently reversing their long-standing stance on their children’s privacy, following the latest promotional activities for Meghan’s As Ever brand.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have always expressed a strong desire to keep their children out of the public eye, are now being accused of using them for commercial purposes. Royal photographer Arthur Edwards recalled that both Harry and his brother had “absolutely hated” media attention as children and had sought to spare their own family from such exposure.

Though the couple had previously avoided sharing their children’s faces on social media, The Sun royal editor Matt Wilkinson highlighted that Meghan is now featuring them in content promoting As Ever and related ventures. “It suggests a shift in priorities where financial interests may be involved,” he noted.

Edwards added, “Will we ever see their faces? Perhaps one day she’ll release a calendar — another Meghan special,” suggesting a possible commercial motive.

Royal journalist Bronte Coy described it as “jarring” that the children appear primarily during brand-related promotions. “People respected their decision to protect the children’s privacy, but it raises questions when they feature for commercial gain,” she said.

The update comes amid reports that Meghan is planning to expand As Ever into the hospitality sector, with potential ventures including restaurants and hotels.
