Duke of Edinburgh to Celebrate 150 Years of Prince Edward Island Regiment and Support Youth Initiatives Across Canada
Prince Edward is gearing up for a special seven-day visit to Canada from June 25 to July 2, 2025, aiming to strengthen longstanding ties and participate in a series of meaningful events across the country.
This high-profile tour comes shortly after King Charles and Queen Camilla’s recent trip, which saw the monarch deliver a historic speech at the opening of Canada’s parliament. Now, the Duke of Edinburgh will take centre stage as he joins celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Prince Edward Island Regiment—a unit he has proudly served as Colonel-in-Chief since 2005. Festivities will include a ceremonial Freedom of the City parade, paying tribute to the regiment’s rich legacy and contributions.
Prince Edward’s itinerary reflects a strong commitment to community engagement. On Prince Edward Island, he will meet with the Abegweit First Nation and participate in an educational forum with representatives from all four Atlantic provinces. He’s also set to connect with youth organisations, continuing his dedication to supporting the next generation.
In Toronto, the Duke will visit the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment and tour both HMCS York, the naval reserve unit, and CFB Trenton air base. Here, he’ll meet with community leaders, emerging youth leaders, and public service professionals—including members of the Toronto Police Service’s Marine Unit and Emergency Task Force—to recognise their important work.
Canada Day will see Prince Edward in Ottawa, joining the country’s celebrations and paying a visit to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, where he serves as Honorary Deputy Commissioner. He will also highlight the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award—a program that has been empowering young Canadians since 1963 to realise their full potential.
With this visit, Prince Edward continues to champion military tradition and youth development, further strengthening the bonds between the United Kingdom and Canada.
