How Princess Catherine Keeps Prince Louis Feeling Included Despite Missing Wimbledon

The Princess of Wales finds sweet way to involve her youngest in royal family traditions

Princess Catherine is proving once again that she knows how to make all three of her children feel equally loved and included—even when one of them has to sit out a big family moment.

While Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 10, have already attended Wimbledon with their parents, seven-year-old Prince Louis has yet to make his debut at the iconic tennis tournament. According to The Daily Mail, Catherine revealed during a 2023 Wimbledon appearance that Louis was “very upset” to be left out.

But the young royal didn’t let that stop him from getting involved in his own way. The Princess of Wales shared with a young ball boy, Joel, that Louis had been practicing his ball boy skills at home, even mimicking the serious stance of professionals. “He tries to practise the standing and staying serious, like us,” Joel told PA News.

Though the Wales children share Prince William’s enthusiasm for football, they also clearly take after their mother’s passion for tennis. In fact, in 2019, Princess Catherine arranged private tennis lessons for Prince George with none other than Wimbledon legend Roger Federer.

As Wimbledon 2024 begins, it remains to be seen whether the Prince and Princess of Wales will attend—and if Louis will finally get his turn in the stands. Meanwhile, another royal marked a courtside comeback: Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, returned to Wimbledon for the first time in over two decades, joining her daughter Princess Beatrice in the Royal Box on opening day.
