Royal family rallies behind England's women's team in emotional display ahead of clash with Spain
King Charles has expressed his heartfelt support for England's women's football team, joining Prince William in celebrating the Lionesses ahead of their UEFA Women's Euro 2025 final against Spain.
On July 27, Buckingham Palace delighted fans by sharing a spirited video on the royal family's official Instagram page. The clip featured the Band of the Grenadier Guards performing the iconic football anthem “It’s Coming Home” outside the Palace, a symbolic gesture ahead of the big match in Basel.
Accompanying the video, the King's message read: "Let's go, girls!! Wishing the very best of luck to the Lionesses in the Women's Euro Final this evening."
The monarch's encouraging words followed a personal note from Prince William, who has traveled to Switzerland to attend the final in person at St. Jakob-Park Stadium. In his message, the Prince of Wales wrote:
"Good luck to the Lionesses tomorrow. The nation is so proud you are through to the final after some stunning comebacks! We are cheering you on!"
The royal enthusiasm has added to the excitement surrounding the match, which will see the Lionesses take on Spain in what promises to be a thrilling showdown. In a show of international royal support, Spain's Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia are also expected to attend the match to cheer for their national side.
As anticipation builds for both the football and a possible royal reunion in the stands, fans are celebrating the unity and passion being shown from both sides of the monarchy.
