Palace confirms Newmarket visit on same day as future king's milestone
As Prince George marked his 12th birthday, King Charles and Queen Camilla fulfilled a major royal duty with a visit to Newmarket in Suffolk, Buckingham Palace confirmed.
While the Prince and Princess of Wales kept birthday celebrations for their eldest son private, it's believed the occasion was marked quietly with close family and friends. However, given the King and Queen's previously scheduled engagement, it's unlikely they joined the festivities in person—although royal watchers suspect a thoughtful gift would have been sent to the young prince from his grandfather.
The Palace announced the King and Queen’s visit to Newmarket, a town with deep-rooted royal ties and a rich 2,000-year heritage in equestrian tradition. Known as the heart of British horse racing, Newmarket is home to two historic racecourses—the Rowley Mile and The July Course—both of which regularly draw the royal family for key events and training inspections.
Although the specifics of their itinerary were not released, it is expected the King and Queen's visit included support for local charities and possibly oversight of their equine interests.
