Monarch shows ambition for cosmic milestone as he champions space sustainability
King Charles could soon make royal history by becoming the first member of the monarchy to travel into space—even while undergoing cancer treatment.
British astronaut Tim Peake recently revealed that the King has expressed serious interest in space exploration and its potential to help protect the Earth. The two met earlier this year at Hampton Court, where they discussed safeguarding the space environment and the role of space technology in supporting life on our planet.
Royal commentator Richard Eden shared details of their meeting, noting that the King might be “the first royal to take flight into space.” Quoting Peake, Eden highlighted the King's curiosity and commitment: “We had a meeting earlier this year about how we can protect the space environment.”
Peake added, “I’m sure if he would like to go, it could be made possible.” He described the King as passionate about the future of space, calling it a “wonderful environment” that should be used to benefit Earth.
This revelation comes as the monarch continues to receive treatment for cancer, a diagnosis confirmed by Buckingham Palace in February 2024. Yet even amid health challenges, King Charles appears focused on forward-thinking causes—this time, possibly from beyond the Earth’s atmosphere.
