New documentary claims Sussexes planned exit years in advance
Meghan Markle and Harry officially stepped down as working members of the royal family in 2020, later relocating to California to begin a new chapter of their lives. But according to a new documentary, their decision may have been years in the making.
A recent Channel 5 program suggests the couple had been planning their departure well before they made it public. Lip-reading expert Nivola Hickling examined footage from a 2018 Service of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey — just months after their wedding — and claims to have uncovered a telling exchange between the pair.
According to Hickling, Meghan was seen telling Harry to "take advantage of the situation," as she glanced around at the other royals in attendance. When Harry asked, “Today?”, Meghan allegedly replied, “Do it tonight.” Harry is then told to have asked, “You do realize that this is the end?” to which Meghan responded, “Yeah, I do know.”
Royal historian Dr Tessa Dunlop also weighed in, noting that the couple's actions suggest they had been preparing for their royal exit long before it was officially announced.
