Duchess criticized over podcast comments as peace talks between father and son gain momentum
Meghan Markle is facing renewed scrutiny following Prince Harry's recent efforts to reconcile with his father, King Charles.
As reports of behind-the-scenes peace talks emerge, the Duchess of Sussex has come under fire for remarks made during her latest podcast appearance with close friend Emma Grede. The episode, which touched on her brand As Ever and her broader journey, included a moment that many interpreted as a veiled jab at the royal family.
When asked what she would most like to change about the public's perception of her, Meghan responded, “Yes, I would ask people to tell the truth.” She continued, "Of course, I've gone through those chapters and do a lot of self-work. I go, 'What's the why?' It's happening for a reason. My dear friend, Serena, said to me, 'A lie can't live forever.' Eight years is a long time, but it's not forever."
The remarks were quickly seized upon by critics, with public relations expert Renae Smith branding the interview “cringe.” In an interview with Express, Smith said, "They were dropped by Spotify, and yes, Meghan bounced back with another podcast. But that recent one with The Other Woman? Cringe."
She added, "It's been the joke of the month. Even if her own podcasting is a bit different, it just proves how out of touch she feels to anyone who isn't already a fan and questions her podcasting skills."
The timing of the controversy has further amplified the criticism, as it coincides with Harry's apparent bid to build bridges with his ailing father. While Meghan continues to maintain a public voice, some observers believe her latest remarks could complicate the Sussexes' broader hopes for reconciliation.
