Streaming deal stalls as Hollywood interest fades and lifestyle ventures stumble
Netflix is gradually closing the curtain on its high-profile collaboration with Meghan Markle and Harry, as interest in the couple’s projects—and their celebrity presence—appears to be waning. Insiders claim the streaming platform has internally decided not to renew the five-year deal inked in 2020, though no official announcement is expected.
Once hailed as a fresh media chapter for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after their royal exit, the Netflix partnership under their Archewell Productions banner initially made headlines. Their debut series Harry & Meghan broke viewership records for a Netflix documentary. However, subsequent releases such as Heart of Invictus and Live to Lead failed to replicate that success or generate sustained audience engagement.
Compounding the situation is Meghan’s latest lifestyle venture—her American Riviera Orchard wine. Marketed as a luxury Napa Valley product, the brand claimed it sold out within an hour. Yet, one source questioned the hype, suggesting it was a small-batch release with limited availability and minimal real traction.
According to Hollywood insiders, the couple's influence in the entertainment industry is also fading. “No one in Hollywood rates them anymore or wants to be around them—especially her. People are bored with them,” a source told the Mail.
Despite the setbacks, Netflix is reportedly satisfied with the early impact of the deal, particularly the global attention generated by their first release. As one insider put it, “They’re not unhappy with how things turned out—they got those initial hits, and produced one of the most talked-about shows of all time.”
Still, the quiet end of this era signals a shift in the couple’s media fortunes, raising questions about what’s next for their Hollywood ambitions.
