Streaming platform unlikely to renew exclusive deal but remains interested in select collaborations
Netflix may be preparing to end its exclusive partnership with Meghan Markle and Harry, but the streaming giant hasn't ruled out future collaborations with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The couple signed a lucrative “first look” agreement with Netflix in 2020, granting the company priority access to all content developed by their production company, Archewell. While their docuseries Harry & Meghan made history as the platform's most successful documentary launch, follow-up titles like Heart of Invictus and Polo struggled to achieve similar momentum.
Despite mixed results, Meghan and Harry continue to retain considerable publicity power. Brand expert Nick Ede told Hello magazine, “The first look deal is something often reserved for major stars, and Netflix won't want to entirely lose their relationship with the pair—they brought subscribers, viewers, and media buzz.”
He added, “Even if not all their content performs strongly, they remain highly valuable when it comes to visibility and branding.”
According to reports, Netflix is not planning to renew the couple's five-year exclusive agreement but is open to working with them on individual projects moving forward. The platform is not expected to make a formal announcement regarding the contract's end.
Meanwhile, Meghan's lifestyle series With Love, Meghan is set to return for a second season later this year. The show's first season, initially planned for January 2025, was delayed and eventually debuted in March.
