Prince William Honors Princess Diana on Her 64th Birthday by Continuing Her Legacy

Future King marks milestone with heartfelt commitment to ending homelessness

On what would have been Princess Diana’s 64th birthday, Prince William paid tribute to his late mother in a way that echoed the compassion she was known for. The Prince of Wales marked the occasion by visiting Sheffield on July 1 to celebrate the second anniversary of his Homewards initiative—an ambitious project focused on making homelessness “rare, brief, and unrepeated.”

The visit carried deep emotional resonance, as Diana was a tireless advocate for the homeless during her lifetime. As Patron of Centrepoint from 1992, she made it a point to expose her sons to the realities of life on the streets, taking them to shelters and inspiring in them a lifelong sense of empathy and service.

During his visit, William also stopped at a local school that has partnered with Homewards to launch an early intervention programme. Designed to identify and support students at risk of homelessness, the initiative reflects the project’s core belief: with the right support systems, homelessness can be prevented before it begins.

As Homewards enters its third year, William’s work stands as a living continuation of his mother’s legacy—transforming compassion into action. Princess Diana's influence remains evident in her son's deep commitment to vulnerable communities, a reminder that her humanitarian spirit lives on through the causes she once championed.
