Future King marks emotional milestone by continuing his mother’s legacy
On what would have been Princess Diana’s 64th birthday, Prince William is set to pay tribute to his late mother in a deeply personal way. The Prince of Wales will travel to Sheffield on July 1 to mark the second anniversary of his Homewards initiative—a five-year project aimed at ending homelessness across the UK.
Inspired by Diana’s compassion and hands-on advocacy, William launched Homewards to continue the legacy she instilled in him and his brother Harry. As children, the princes accompanied their mother on visits to shelters, where she worked to humanise homelessness and break down stigma.
Ahead of his visit, William wrote a moving letter to the six regions involved in the programme—Sheffield, Newport, Aberdeen, Northern Ireland, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, and Lambeth—commending their dedication and progress.
“We have the ability to harness our collective capabilities, expertise, and resources towards this common cause,” he wrote. “I am immensely proud to say that your collective effort has already allowed us to achieve lasting impact.”
As he continues his late mother’s mission with empathy and resolve, William’s gesture on her birthday serves as a powerful reminder of Diana’s enduring influence on the future king’s public life.
