Royal expert questions why Duchess stayed quiet amid charity controversy
Meghan Markle's decision to remain silent during a dispute involving Harry has sparked fresh questions about her public support for her husband.
Harry recently resigned as co-founder of Sentebale, the charity he helped establish to assist children and young people living with HIV and AIDS. His departure followed a public exchange of criticisms between him and the organization's chairwoman, Dr Sophie Chandauka — a move that drew scrutiny from the charity commission.
Royal historian Dr Tessa Dunlop suggested Meghan's quiet stance is notable, given Harry's history of defending her in public. Speaking to The Mirror, she wondered if the couple's new Netflix deal — reportedly less lucrative than their previous £74 million agreement — might prompt Meghan to address the matter.
Dunlop pointed out that Meghan has previously used her voice to challenge the Royal Family and could do the same for the Sentebale dispute. Yet, she noted, this time the Duchess has not “come out battling” for Harry.
Whether Meghan will eventually comment remains to be seen, but the couple's public displays of unity continue to keep royal watchers guessing.
