Could this private reunion mark the start of reconciliation?
Prince Harry and King Charles are expected to see each other face-to-face for the first time in 20 months when the Duke of Sussex returns to London on September 8 for the WellChild Awards.
According to reports, Harry’s team and the Palace have re-opened communication lines, with sources suggesting both father and son are ready to take this step. “It’s clear there is now a determination on both sides to make this happen,” one insider said.
While tensions with the wider royal family remain unresolved, the focus appears to be on Harry and Charles rebuilding their relationship separately. “Nobody is pretending the wider family issues have been resolved, but this is about beginning with Charles and Harry,” the source added. “For the first time in a long time, there’s a genuine sense that reconciliation is within reach.”
The planned meeting is expected to be low-key, described as a straightforward conversation between father and son rather than a staged royal event. “This is not about grand gestures or set-piece meetings — it’s about a simple face-to-face conversation. The priority is privacy and dignity, but also ensuring the door stays open for further dialogue,” the insider explained.
However, hopes for a similar breakthrough between Harry and his brother, Prince William, appear slim. “As for Harry and William, though, any chance of reconciliation between them has been rejected out of hand,” the source confirmed.
Harry’s September trip will be his first time back in the UK since losing his court battle in May 2025 over taxpayer-funded security. Even so, there have been signs of progress with his father, including a reported private peace talk in London earlier this summer.
Whether this upcoming meeting proves to be the start of a lasting reconciliation remains to be seen, but for now, it marks an important step for both Charles and Harry.
