£75m agreement gives streaming giant room to walk away if projects don’t deliver
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have confirmed that their multi-million-pound partnership with Netflix will continue, with new content already on the way.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first signed their five-year deal with the streaming giant in 2020, shortly after stepping back from royal duties. The agreement, worth an estimated £75m, was due to expire in 2025 but has now been extended—though with some caveats.
Meghan herself marked the renewal by announcing the return of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, set to premiere on August 26. She posted on Instagram: “The best moments are made to be shared. With Love, Meghan returns August 26th on @netflix.”
Behind the scenes, however, industry insiders suggest the extension may come with strings attached. A source told the Daily Mail that the arrangement could be “an elegant way for Netflix to cut ties” if the Sussexes fail to deliver projects with the same impact as their 2022 docu-series Harry & Meghan.
“This announcement is potentially an elegant way for Netflix to cut ties with the Sussexes if they don’t come up with anything juicy and personal,” the source said.
When pressed about financial details, a spokesperson for the couple said: “I can say no more owing to commercially confidential contractual agreements.” Netflix also declined to discuss fees, saying only: “As you can imagine, and as with all the talent Netflix works with, we don’t discuss fees or deal terms.”
What Netflix did confirm is that Meghan’s lifestyle programme will return for a second season later this month, ensuring at least one new release tied to the deal.
