Royal couple’s move to Forest Lodge sparks talk of changes to long-standing holiday traditions
William and Catherine are preparing for a new chapter in Windsor, with plans to move into Forest Lodge by the end of 2025. The Prince and Princess of Wales will pay a market rent for the property, which is already undergoing building work ahead of their arrival.
The move, described as part of a “fresh start” for their family, has been well received locally. However, it could mean changes to one of Windsor’s most cherished holiday traditions. A local resident told the Mail that the popular Christmas tree market, which attracts thousands each year, might have to be relocated due to its proximity to the couple’s new home.
“Thousands of people from the area come to buy home-grown Windsor trees each year,” the resident explained. “I think most are excited to see their new neighbours.”
The move has also reignited speculation about William’s future choices when he becomes King, with some insiders suggesting he may opt not to use Buckingham Palace as his official residence.
For now, the Wales family is focused on settling into their new home, even if it means reshaping some familiar holiday traditions for the community.
