Future monarch expected to take firmer stance than Charles or the late Queen
Prince William is said to have a clear plan for addressing Prince Andrew's royal future — and it could mean taking decisive action to strip his uncle of his remaining status once he ascends the throne.
According to The Telegraph, the Prince of Wales intends to adopt a much tougher approach than both his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and his father, King Charles III, when it comes to handling Andrew's controversial position.
Royal biographer Christopher Wilson told the publication that William has “hard-nosed ideas about how the royal family needs to appear in the frenzied social media world we now inhabit” and believes the heir will be “ruthless” in protecting the monarchy's image.
He contrasted this with Charles’s more cautious stance, noting that the King has largely avoided moves that could be seen as “tearing the family apart.”
An insider further revealed that William “would not shy away” from addressing the Duke of York's situation when he takes the crown.
Prince Andrew stepped back from royal duties in 2019 following intense backlash over his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. While he has relinquished several honorary titles, he has retained his Duke of York title and royal status.
In 2022, York Central MP Rachael Maskell introduced a Private Members' Bill that would give monarchs the authority to revoke titles. Sources suggest any future move against Andrew would likely be handled through Parliament, ensuring it aligns with modern constitutional practices.
If carried out, such action would signal a significant shift in the monarchy's handling of scandal and public accountability.
