Royal interest in hit spy series revealed during honors celebration
Queen Camilla recently captured public sentiment with a simple yet telling question posed during a special royal ceremony honoring key contributors to British society.
In line with royal tradition, King Charles granted prestigious honors during his official birthday celebration in June, recognizing individuals for their exceptional service across the United Kingdom. Among those honored was actor Gary Oldman, who received a knighthood for his outstanding contributions to the world of film and drama.
Oldman, a veteran actor with a career spanning decades, has won fresh acclaim in recent years for his leading role in the acclaimed Apple TV+ spy drama Slow Horses. The series has become a favorite among viewers—and, it seems, within the royal family.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, the 67-year-old Oscar winner revealed the light-hearted question Queen Camilla asked him during the ceremony: “Are there any more?”—a nod to the show's future episodes. “I’m led to believe that they like Slow Horses,” Oldman said, sharing that he hears the same question from fans everywhere, even in unexpected places like supermarkets in Palm Springs.
The show is scheduled to return with its fifth season next month, with Season 6 already completed and Season 7 set to begin filming this fall. When asked about the series' longevity, Oldman admitted he hasn't decided when to step away. “I love the people, the show, and the character,” he said. “But Apple write the checks and have been generous... Do you think people would eventually just get fed up with it?”
Reflecting on his knighthood, the actor said he was “thrilled,” but insisted it came as a surprise. “No, I wasn't angling for it,” he shared. "I've done some charity work over the years, and I'd like to think I'm a good export, an ambassador for Britain. I have a green card, but I'm still a British subject."
