The Queen’s Reading Room teases next reading list with summer message
Queen Camilla, a lifelong supporter of literacy initiatives, marked the August Bank Holiday with the release of a new portrait and a special announcement from The Queen’s Reading Room.
The image, shared on social media, came with the caption: “What have you been reading this summer?” The post went on to reveal that the Queen has personally chosen a fresh collection of titles for her book club, which will be shared with readers in the coming months.
“To celebrate this August Bank Holiday, we are delighted to share a lovely new portrait of Her Majesty Queen Camilla by the talented Chris Jackson,” the Reading Room team added.
The Queen’s Reading Room began during lockdown as an online project encouraging people to read. Today, it continues to thrive, with Camilla hand-picking a new list of books each season.
In the new photograph, taken in Lacock, Wiltshire, the Queen is pictured holding a stack of five books with their covers turned away to keep the choices a mystery. She is dressed in a striking animal-print design in green and aquamarine tones, featuring hidden illustrations of lemurs and toucans. The elegant dress, with its cinched waist and three-quarter sleeves, was a standout choice.
This portrait session also produced the official image released on 17 July to mark her 78th birthday, making it another memorable milestone in Camilla’s public role.
