Duchess of York joins royal family in honouring Second World War heroes
Sarah Ferguson has joined King Charles in paying tribute to the heroes of VJ Day, marking the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender and the end of the Second World War.
The Duchess of York took to Instagram on Friday, re-sharing black-and-white photos from 1945 released by the royal family. The images captured the joy and relief of people celebrating victory after years of conflict.
Alongside the photos, Fergie wrote an emotional message: “Eighty years have passed since VJ Day, yet the bravery, endurance, and sacrifice of those who served remain etched in our hearts. Our nation's gratitude is everlasting, for they gifted us the tomorrow they would never see. May their memory be cherished and their legacy never fade.”
Her gesture echoed King Charles and Queen Camilla’s participation at the national remembrance service, where they led tributes alongside veterans, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and members of the public.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s mother joined the wider royal family—including William and Catherine—in commemorating the milestone day, which honours the sacrifices of those who served in the Far East and Pacific before Japan’s surrender on August 15, 1945.
