Duchess of Sussex set against Harry’s hopes for a British education
Tension could be brewing between Harry and Meghan Markle over how their children will be raised, with royal experts suggesting the issue of schooling may become a dividing line.
Speculation began after Harry’s recent four-day trip to the UK, where rumours spread that he wanted to enrol Archie at Eton, the boarding school closely tied to Britain’s elite and political families. A spokesperson for the Duke dismissed the talk, saying there were no plans to register Archie at Eton.
Even so, the question of where Archie and Lilibet will be educated remains unsettled. Harry has spoken about wanting his children to understand their British roots, while Meghan is reportedly opposed to boarding schools altogether.
Royal commentator Lydia told the Mirror: “Meghan has consistently presented herself as the decision-maker in their family, and if she labels boarding schools unacceptable, Harry will almost certainly back down. It’s hard to imagine him pushing for a British education if Meghan thinks it’s cruel, however much he’d like the children to follow in his footsteps.”
For royal families and military households, boarding schools have traditionally provided stability and independence, but Meghan appears unconvinced. Lydia argued that if Meghan blocks the idea, it would mark “another bridge quietly burned” and leave Archie and Lilibet further removed from their royal relatives.
