Duke shows no regrets as royal rift remains
Harry’s 50-minute meeting with King Charles at Clarence House on 10 September appears to have done little to heal their fractured relationship. According to insiders, the Duke of Sussex remained unapologetic about his past choices, falling short of the king’s hopes that he might show some remorse.
A royal source explained, “Their wounds are still raw, needing more time and remedy to heal properly. Years of distance cannot be resolved in just an hour.” They added that the Duke was “unapologetic and unbroken” throughout the exchange.
Reports suggested the discussion was such a success that Charles considered offering his youngest son the “half-in, half-out” arrangement Harry and Meghan requested back in 2020. But others have insisted the monarch has no plans to overturn his late mother’s position that no royal can operate under such a deal.
Observers say Harry will need to make greater efforts if he truly wants to rebuild trust and find a path back into the royal fold. While the private talk did not deliver a breakthrough, it was the first face-to-face encounter between father and son in nearly two years, leaving at least some hope that reconciliation is still possible.
